New research to optimise nanostructure preparation

Johnson Matthey’s research teams continuously work with their collaborators to bring new products and technologies to market. With nanostructures being a foundation for heterogeneous catalysts, the optimisation of their preparation process remains one of the challenges for development teams across many industries.

Johnson Matthey’s researchers jointly with their counterparts from academia and industry have been studying the effect of such metal precursors as palladium nitrate solution
(product code 174070)
and tetrammine palladium hydroxide solution on the formation of palladium oxide nanoparticles. It has been discovered that the nitrate ligands in palladium nitrate solution bridge between palladium centres and so encourage the formation of larger nanoparticles at lower temperatures.
